America Votes: How is Our President Elected by Linda Granfield is a non-fiction book that could be used in a 3rd grade social studies/history class. This is picture book that was originally an essay. Granfield took the essay and broke it into sections that make the election process easy for students to understand. Through out this book the students will learn about ballots, voting machines, referendums, the electoral college, presidential responsibilities, debates, and more. The pictures and information in this book are great. It would be a great way to keep students engaged in the government system.

This site is full of historical picture books and chapter books that would be great for students to work with. The picture books will help them stay engaged but will also teach them tons about history. She also has a section of activities that would be a great tool as well. Check it out if you can!
